Ganesh Chaturthi (also known as Vināyaka Caturthi, ) is the Hindu festival celebrated in honour of the elephant-headed god Ganesha. Chaturthi (Hindi चतुर्थी) means “fourth day” or “fourth state”. Celebrations are traditionally held on the fourth day of the first fortnight (Shukla Chaturthi) in the month of Bhaadrapada in the Hindu calendar, usually August or September in the Gregorian calendar. This festival lasts ten days, ending on the fourteenth day of the fortnight Anant Chaturdashi. Although it is unknown when (or how) Ganesh Chaturthi was first observed, the festival has been publicly celebrated in Pune, since the era of chhtrapati Shivaji Maharaj .The Peshwas (hereditary administrators of the empire from 1718 until its end in 1818) encouraged the celebrations in their capital, Pune. On the 10th day of the festival in order to end the celebration the idol of Lord Ganesh that were installed are immersed in a nearby water body such as in ocean and during this stage there are group chanting, public procession singing and with music. Since music is an important attraction of the celebration , so people sing out loud for their celebration of Ganesh Chaturthi with love and to rejoice in the atmosphere of the festival for a new beginning.
During the celebration of Ganesh Chaturthi huge clay idols of Lord Ganesha are installed in pandals made for the celebration of this festival. Lord Ganesha is know as the God of New Beginnings and the Remover of Obstacles and the God of wisdom and intelligence, so this festival is extensively observed throughout the country mainly in the states of Goa, Maharashtra, Telengana, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, etc. The observation of this festival begins with the chanting of Vedic hymns, prayers, fasting (Varta) and narrations from Hindu texts such as Ganapati Upanishad. Offerings are made to the Lord of New Beginning such as prasada especially ladoos, which are later distributed among the worshipers. While celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi musical events are also organized by the local communities, and it is one of the important attribute of the celebration.
